Letters of Intent for the Baronial Seat

Lord Tyrn of Iron Bog & Lady Brigit Comyn

Greetings,

Lord Tyrn of Iron Bog & Lady Brigit Comyn and I would like to announce our candidacy for the position of Baron & Baroness of Iron Bog. We meet all the criteria set forth in the charter of Iron Bog.
We are long standing members and have either hosted or co-hosted many events. We have also held officer positions within the Barony for more then a year.

Thank you for your consideration,
Lord Tyrn of Iron Bog & Lady Brigit Comyn

Lord Sterling De La Rosa

Greetings unto the members of the Barony of Iron Bog,
I would like to submit this letter as a formal request to put my name in to become Baron of your land.
According to the rules that were set up I believe that I meet your requirements for my name to be place on the polling list. I live within your borders. I have been an officer. A Knight Marshall for at least 4-5 years. I do attend meetings when my mundane schedule allows. I do lend my services to the land and surrounding lands when I am able too. Now this may be all well and good but the question that maybe ask is why should I be voted in as Baron. Or better yet why do I want to be Baron.
My reasons for wanting to be Baron all start with the word "FUN". Being Baron as I travel to other lands would give me a great reason to tell tales of the Iron Bog land. I feel that over the years I have grown into a very good asset to the land of Iron Bog and look forward to growing even more. This opportunity would allow me a chance to enjoy the game we play from a larger point of view. This opportunity would allow me to use my leadership skills off the field.
I would like to let my past positive service be an example of what I bring with me as we move into the future.

In Service to the Dream in which we play this game,
Lord Sterling De La Rosa

Baron Rowen Cloteworthy and Baroness Marguerite

Unto Your most noble Excellencies, Lawrence and Katherine, Baron and Baroness Iron Bog, and also to Their Seneschal, Lady Drueta de la Rosa, and to those living in the Barony of Iron Bog, greetings from Baron Rowen Cloteworthy and Baroness Marguerite de Saint Nazaire upon this the feast day of Saint Mary of Egypt, in the sixth month of the reign of Andreas III and Gabriella, known also as the 9th day of April, A.S. 42, or 2008 in the common reckoning. May this letter find you and yours well and of good spirit.

This missive is to inform Your Excellencies and those named others that we are announcing our intent to enter the contest to choose the next Baronial Seat for the Barony of Iron Bog.

Baron Rowen has resided in Iron Bog for 12 years. In that time, he has twice served as Seneschal and once as Exchequer. He has been the Event Steward for six of the last 24 events held in Iron Bog, including two of the last three Royal Progresses (the Crown Tourney of Kelson II and Genevieve II and the Bardic Championship of Balfar IV and Luna IV). He was also Deputy Steward for the Kingdom Crusades run by Baron Lawrence. In that same time, he was Head Cook for one event and Assistant Head Cook for another. Within the Kingdom, he has served as Blue Tyger Herald (External Submissions) and is currently Troubadour Herald (Court and Tourney Heraldry). He has served the houses of Balfar IV and Luna IV, Thorson and Svava, Brion II and Anna II, and Gryffith and Aikaterine as a herald. He was gifted with a Court Barony with a Grant of Arms by Brion II and Anna II. He was inducted into the Order of the Silver Crescent by Balfar IV and Luna IV, and he was awarded Arms by Timothy II and Gabrielle II. Baron Rowen was the recipient of a King's Cypher from Gryffith. He was presented with the Queen's Order of Courtesy by Genevieve II and received the Order of the Burdened Tyger from Andreas II and Isabella II.

Baroness Marguerite moved to Iron Bog last March, six months after her engagement to Baron Rowen and three months before their wedding. She has been a member of the Society for 11 years, most of that time within the Barony of Dragonship Haven. Although relatively new to the Barony of Iron Bog, she has served for the the last year as Dextrochere Herald, assisting Master Adhemar, Brigantia Principal Herald of the East. She has also served as Senior Staff to Gryffith and Aikaterine and to Brion II and Anna II. She has served as a Lady-in-Waiting throughout the reigns of Balfar IV and Luna IV, Hans III and Olivia, and Balfar III and Luna III. She was presented with a Court Barony by Gryffith and Aikaterine, given a Grant of Arms by Brion II and Anna II, and awarded Arms by Hans III and Olivia. She is also the recipient of a Queen's Order of Courtesy from Roxanne III.

Having worked for and with so many noble kings and queens, we feel we have a great appreciation for the role and tradition of the Baronial Seat in the Kingdom of the East. The local Baron and Baroness should foster and encourage the talents and gifts of those in the Barony and we feel that the role models we have had until now give us good basis be that encouragement to others. We have seen much growth in this young Barony and feel passionate about it's future. We would like to encourage more people to run Kingdom events and Royal Progresses within the Barony. We also would encourage our local artisans and warriors to present themselves in Royal Championships in greater numbers than now do. With the help of the people of the Barony of Iron Bog, the Barony can only become greater. We hope that you will allow us to aid in that quest.

We remain your loyal servants.

Don Collin Monro of Tadcaster and Dona Marion del Okes

To the people of the Barony of Iron Bog, Don Collin Monro of Tadcaster and Dona Marion del Okes send greetings. With this letter we wish to announce our intention to be placed on the ballot for consideration as the next Baron and Baroness of Iron Bog.

Don Collin has lived in Iron Bog his whole life. He joined the SCA in 2000 and his first event was Iron Bog’s "What’s Your Point" in June of that year. Since then he has been a fixture on the fencing list and has grown to love all aspects of SCA life. He is the Southern Region Rapier Marshal and is a Marshal in Training for target archery. Twice he has served as the Iron Bog rapier Champion and he has been honored to serve on the Queen's Guard three times. At this past King & Queens Rapier Championships, Queen Gabriella did him the honor of naming him Her Champion.

Dona Marion has been in the SCA since 1994. She was a resident of the Shire of Barren Sands for seven years before moving to the Barony of Iron Bog in 2002. She has served as the Queens Rapier Champion, Iron Bog's Rapier Champion twice and has served on four Queen's Guards. She has also worked as part of the Royal Heraldic staff for three separate Eastern Crowns. She is currently proteged to Master Ernst Nuss von Kitzingen. She is the Deputy Southern Region Rapier Marshal and the Deputy to the Branch Polling Deputy. She is also a deputy herald for the Barony of Iron Bog.

Filling the seats of the next Baron and Baroness will not be an easy task, as we could not have asked for a better pair to be our first Baron and Baroness than Master Lawrence and Mistress Katherine. Whoever the populous chooses to follow Them will have a great legacy to live up to. We hope that, if given the chance, we can take up Their example and continue the fine work They have done in seeing our Barony off to its glorious start.

Yours in service,

Don Collin Monro of Tadcaster                         Dona Marion del Okes

Don Nigel Westcastle and Lady Drueta de la Rosa

Greetings unto their Excellencies, Lawrence Thornguard and Katherine Barr, the officers of the mighty barony of Iron Bog, and its wondrous populace:

We, Don Nigel Westcastle and Lady Drueta de la Rosa commend ourselves to you and wish to declare our desire to be considered as candidates to be the next Baron and Baroness of Iron Bog.

Don Nigel has been involved in the society since 1994 all of which time he has resided within the borders of Iron Bog. During his 14 years in the SCA he has been active within the martial community, achieving top honors in fencing. He has fought with the Iron Guard, against enemies of the East Kingdom , for the past two years. He is a marshal for the heavy list, combat archery, siege, and fencing. He has helped to promote combat archery and has brought siege to our barony. Many a fencer, within the barony and outside its borders, can attest to getting their start with Don Nigel. He can often be found running fencing tournaments for Iron Bog and other groups. He is the founder of the Senior’s Tournament at Pennsic.

But his service and devotion is not restricted to martial field. Don Nigel has autocrated an extremely well attended event, Winter Brawl, for the barony. He can often be found setting up list fields, thrones, or even in the baronial kitchens. He created the list corners that barony currently uses. He has built several shower houses for Iron Bog at Pennsic. And he saw to the comfort of our current Baron and Baroness with the thrones that he constructed.

He is a member of The Order of the Golden Rapier and held the title of King’s Champion of Fence.
He is a member of the Order of the Silver Crescent and is the principle member of the order of The Silver Martlet.
He has been given a Queen’s Cypher and received the Queen’s Honor of Distinction.
He is so far the only recipient of The Silver Cattail.

Lady Drueta came to the SCA through the Shire of Coil Tuar where she held the office of Herald. She came to Iron Bog in 2004 and almost immediately took on the office of Herald. In 2006 she was elected to be the Seneschal of the group, an office she still currently holds.

She assistant autocrated the last Crown Tourney held within Iron Bog and successfully co-autocrated the Baronial Investiture of Lawrence and Katherine. She was also the liaison for the site for Winter Brawl. When not associated with the autocrating of an event she can be found on set up and clean up crews, running troll, and even in the kitchens.

She was an active participant in the creation of the current baronial charter.
She helped to create and produce the medallions for the current baronial awards.
She holds marshalates for Combat Archery and Siege and promotes both within the barony. She has fought along side the Iron Guard against enemies of the East Kingdom for 2 wars and will continue to do so. She is also an authorized fencer.
She continues in the voice heraldry community, heralding Kingdom courts and calling lists at events including but not limited to several Crown Tournaments, the Fighting Laurel’s and Ladies of the Rose Tournaments at Pennsic, and baronial championships.
She champions the Toys for Tots program and helped to bring the Barony into second place for collections.
She is a member of the Order of the Silver Crescent and Order of the Silver Martlet.

We have been together for many years; our wedding was held within the Barony at Love and War in Iron Bog.

Among our primary goals, should we be found worthy to serve as Baron and Baroness of Iron Bog, are:

We have been discussing the challenges of being Baron and Baroness since their Excellencies announced their stepping down. We are not walking into this with a lack of appreciation for the hard work and sacrifices that this job will likely demand. We will endeavor to serve gracefully and with integrity, should we be selected as successors to their Excellencies of Iron Bog.
