Iron Bog Meeting Minutes
7/13/10

Baronial Seat: Baroness Drueta

  • Sees 2 new faces tonight; Jennifer/Caitlin just moved from Pennsylvania to Southern Jersey and Devon whose been coming to fencing practice.
  • Apologized that she cannot come to Pennsic.  New policy for parents/children.  Missive passed around.  Khatife: stay with your children or have someone else with them and you’ll have no problems.
  • Had Heavy Championship and Toys for Tots since the last meeting.  263 toys and $52.00 was raised.  Tyrum won Champions.  Both events were very hot, but went very well.  6 new people at Toys for Tots.  Have heard people have emailed but no one has gotten the emails.  Will check all the website links.

Seneschal: Peach

  • Vote for Historian due in July.  No letters in yet, including the current Historian.  We’ll vote at the next meeting.  Next meeting would be during Pennsic.  We don’t want to skip a month with Coronation coming up.  Peach will talk to library about availabilities for August meeting.
  • In September an election will be held for Mistress of Art and Sciences.
  • Genevra doing a great job recruiting people for gate duty.  Bruni in charge of gate duty for the East, so you can contact her as well.
  • Report in on time.

Exchequer (Deputy): Marion

  • No report in from Ailill.

Herald: Marion

  • Lucas’ name and device passed Kingdom is on Society for review.
  • Peach's name and device passed kingdom and is at Society for review.
  • Aibhilin and Declan’s devices are at Kingdom for review.

Mistress of A&S: Creature absent-sent letter

  • 11/6 Artisan event at Hartshorn-dale.
  • No project night this month as Creature will be at Pennsic setting-up.

Cooks guild-Valery

  • Are any Brunch with the Baronesses planned?
  • Dru: Let’s have a Breakfast with the Baroness on Sunday after Coronoation.
  • Katya: Would anyone be willing to host a Tasting with the Baroness the Saturday after Pennsic to try recipes for Coronation?  Katherine offered her house.

Sewing Circle: Genevra

  • Will be either next Tuesday or the Tuesday after that.
  •  Peach: maybe have quarterly instead of monthly.

Chronicler-Khatife

  • Electronic newsletter for June/July will be up tonight or by tomorrow night.
  • Please send in submissions about this Pennsic (and/or others).

Chatelaine-Genevra

  • Had new people come to Toys for Tots.  One couple in the SCA and moved from a different area.  One new person from Ducal Challenge called and says has been busy but is still interested.
  • Needs to send in report.

Chancellor Minor-Aibhilin

  • Report in on time.  Heard back from the new Kingdom Chancellor of Minor, Aislinn Chiabach, who’s glad to hear things are going well in the Barony.
  • Beginning to plan activities for Coronation.

Webmistress-Saikhan

  • River War site down; Coronation site getting ready to go.
  • Added award submission form to the website.

MOL- Alissa

  • New fighter authorized at Toys for Tots paperwork went in right after the event.

Knight Marshall-Tyrum(absent-report sent in)

  • Toys for Tots- Tyrum wants to do Toys for Tots on 12/18 at same site. No other conflicts on Kingdom schedule so he wants to lock in the date on the Kingdom schedule.
  • No fight practice during Pennsic and the week after.

Youth fighting-Sterling

  • Still have one Youth Marshall in the Barony.  We need more.  You don’t have to be authorized for Heavy to be a Youth Marshall.
  • Went to Long Island working on their program.  Bhaikal’s program is going well.

Fence Marshall- Ruadhan

  • Toys for Tots: 5 fencers, 4 fought.  Ruadhan won.
  • Deputy ran practice last Sunday.  One new fencer came as well as Declan &Collin.
  • No practice this Sunday.

Old business:

Toys for Tots: Pros & Cons

  • Too hot.  Plenty of water.  Lots of people come out.  Christopher manned the grill all day long.  A little light on food.  Next year we need to organize with a food list.
  • We got a lot of toys.
  • Need more advertising to get more people to come out.  Need something that will catch your attention.  Need to make sure it’s put together and advertised as an Event instead a glorified fight practice.
  • For the next Toys for Tots, we need a formal bid (not just a budget) submitted and voted on, just as any other Event.

Coronation-Sterling

  • River War has become Coronation.  Budget that we approved was approved by the Kingdom.  The Royals are looking at a hotel that’s about 15 minutes away.
  • New write-ups for new website.
  • Heavy fighting scenario is a timed castle siege battle.  Sterling would like to provide a real castle.  We need to build a real-looking castle wall for the Castle Siege Battle.  Sterling has been talking to people about building this.
  • Sterling has spoken to our Excellency and Bhaikal’s Excellencies and he is going to plan activities for Sunday.
  • Dru wants to hold a small Court on Sunday since we cannot hold Court at Pennsic.
  • Collin: River War was supposed to be a Fencing Championship, but with Coronation it cannot be held on Saturday.  Collin’s worried that the numbers will be lower if Champions are held on the Sunday.  Collin: We can ask the Royals if we can hold Fencing Champions during the 3-4 hour afternoon Heavy Fighting.  Decided it would be bad etiquette.
  • Discussed and decided: Clean up kitchen and the Castle Wall on Saturday.  Fencing Championships starting at 10am followed by a short Baronial Court.  Breakfast with the Baroness will consist of leftovers and will be done during Fencing Championship and Court.  No organized Heavy Fighting tournament will be held (pick-ups can be done). All activities ending at 2pm with clean up from 2pm to 4pm.

Signs:

  • Collin googled yard signs and found a company (Signs on the Cheap) that makes yard signs.  Passed around estimates:
    • 25 each of left turn, right turn and straight ahead SCA signs plus 50 white stakes for $297.16.
    • 50 of each of left turn, right turn and straight ahead SCA signs plus 100 white stakes for $367.06.
  • We’ll table it until next time.  Dru will look into more options.

Pennsic

  • Creature doesn’t have an answer as to whether or not we’ve gotten the same spot.
  • Valery is working up a sketch for our land.
  • Valery bought a white board for the week’s schedule.
  • We don’t know who has the buckets and shovel.  Ciaran has collapsible shovel and Genevra and Andre have buckets (they arrive on the 6th).

K & Q Archery Championships:

  • Collin looked into it.  They said that because of the amount of involvement the Archery Champion has in the event planning, they’ve want it held in the area in which the champion lives.

New Business:

  • Peach: What did we decide about a new storage shelter for our things with Creature?  We’ll discuss at the next meeting.

Motion made to adjourn and seconded.
