Stewards: Fiadhnait inghean Ciaragain & Eldritch of Sylvan Glen
Cooks: Lord Fergus O'Farrel of Fenwick & Lady Grainne ni Bhraonain
Site: St. Joseph's Church, Swedesboro

The larders are full and stocked for winter - there is plenty. The sun sets earlier and earlier and so the shadows grow. Our work is over and it is time to revel in the rising darkness. Come in from the cold and sit down to a hot feast with good drink. Stare with awe at the entries in the arts and sciences competition (bring your best work!). Don your finest mask or make one on the spot and dance through the evening to the music of the Bhakaili Branslers.
Prizes will be awarded to the finest from the A&S entries. Another prize goes to the finest mask crafted on-site.
A heralds' table will be present to provide name and device consultations and to answer questions. An afternoon instructor will be available to show you how to dance for the coming evening's delights, but if you are one that prefers gaming, there will be dice and games to chance your luck and skill. Activities will also be provided for the younger gentles.
For those to whom a mask on their face means a blade in their hand, there will be fencing. The Shire of Iron Bog will be hosting its Shire Fencing Champion Tourney. The Tournament is open to all, however only a resident of Iron Bog or Barren Sands can claim the title. General fencing will follow.
For those who prefer fighting instead, we can accommodate you as well. Lists will open at 11:30.
The evening's feast will be gloriously prepared by Lord Fergus O'Farrel of Fenwick and Lady Grainne ni Bhraonain and served to your table at the first hint of darkness near five of the clock. Entertainers are heartily welcomed.
Afterward there will be a masked revel with music, dancing, and merry-making.
Site opens at 10:30 AM and closes at 9 PM. Anyone present after 9 PM graciously offers to help clean up. The site is discretely damp - please bring your beverages in period containers (please take all containers with you).
Candles are permitted, though we prefer no open flames. The site is not handicapped-accessible.
Cost is $6.00 for the day, which includes a light dayboard. For those staying for feast, the cost is $12.00.
Children under 12 pay half price, and babes-in-arms are free. The feast seats 80, so get your reservations in early. Merchants are welcomed to attend and asked to drop a warning to krogbin@... so that we may plan space. We are also asking that merchants kindly donate an item to the "prize pool" for the A&S competition, in lieu of a fee.

Bog Barter Day
August 24th, 2002

Stewards: Lady Ninian Ende and Dorathia Mychell
Site: Grange Hall / Grace Church, Moorestown

Have you discovered that too many SCA-type items have found their way into your home? Then join the Shire ofIron Bog for a day of barter and fun and trade for some of your less used items.
On the 24th of August the Shire will host its first barter event. This is how the event will run: You bring fabric, trim, garb, buttons, candles, feast gear, books, or any other SCA-related item you may have floating around in the depths of your home. Everyone else will do the same. We all meet at the same place and time and trade items back and forth. That fabric you meant to make a doublet out of years ago could turn into the feast gear you have needed for years! This is a barter event, so no money will change hands. You will determine the swap of a lifetime for your items.
If, at the end of the day, you still find yourself burdened with unwanted items, you may leave them onsite and they will be used for an auction to help raise funds to support the Shire's dance practices.
The site will be Grace Christian Fellowship, 750 East Main Street, Moorestown, NJ 08057. Site will open at 10, with bartering to begin at 11. Bartering will wrap up at 5, with site closing at 6. No feast is planned, so please plan on bringing a lunch or snack. Site fee is $5.00 per person, with smalls under 14 free.

From the southern reaches of the great Laurel Kingdom of the East comes a voice. A voice rich with the memories of those who have been a part of its history. A voice wise with its experiences, some sad, some joyous. A voice weighted with the passing of time, yet anticipating its future. A voice that calls out to the Kingdom, to those who have been its friends and to those it has yet to meet, and says, "Hey, cool twenty years old and we haven't blown ourselves up yet! Let's have a party!" Join us in celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Founding of the Shire of Iron Bog on the 15th of November, 2003, at Ferrell Volunteer Fire Company in Ferrell, NJ. The site opens at 11 AM and closes at 9 PM.
Merchants are more than welcome to attend and ply their wares. We ask only that in addition to paying the entrance fee to the event, an item be donated for auction. Merchants must contact the Steward before the event.
Their Majesties, Balfar and Luna, though busy attending business in another part of the Kingdom, have declared that displays of personal heraldry are a joy to Their hearts. To this end, we would strongly encourage our guests to bring their banners to proclaim their presence in the hall.
During the day, we'll be showcasing the arts with an Exhibition open to all. We especially encourage items produced with or made from iron - needlework, calligraphy, armour, and the like - and displays relevant to Iron Bog's past and future.
The Event Steward is Lady Dorathia Mychell. The Honorable Lord Justinian Timagenes will be teaching classes in dance during the day, in preparation for the evening's Ball. Baroness Katherine Barr will be leading a discussion of the SCA and its practices and etiquette, intended especially for newcomers.
The Cattail Pursuivant, Lord Eldrich Gaiman, will be offering heraldic consulting to those who desire it. We also plan to offer games of chance and skill for those so inclined. However, this event is not only for those of an artistic inclination. There will be martial activities as well. Lord Sterling dela Rosa wishes to encourage the heavy-weapons fighters to join together on the tourney field for the last chance to fight at an event before the 100-Minutes War.
During the day, there will be a silent auction of items collected by and donated to the Shire.
The cooks will set out a light side-board during the day. In the late afternoon, there will be a magnificent feast of rare delicacies and favorite Iron Bog dishes through the years, prepared by Lady Grainne ni Bhraonáin and the renowned Iron Bog Cooks' Guild. We are planning on serving a few vegetarian dishes, but questions regarding special dietary concerns should be directed to the Steward.
Finally, we will dance away the evening to the music of the ever-popular Bhakaili Branslers.

K&Q Bardic Champions - (Royal Progress of Balfar IV & Luna IV)
March 6th, 2004

Steward - Lord Rowen Cloteworthy
Cook - Lord Christopher Calchoune
Site - Grace Church of Haddonfield, Haddonfield

The long nights of winter are passing and soon the first buds of spring will bring fresh beauty to the world. On this cusp of the season's change, join the Shire of Iron Bog in hosting Their Royal Majesties, Balfar IV and Luna IV, as they choose the newest Bardic Champions on the feast day of Saint Fridolin, abbot and confessor, A.S. XXXVIII, also reckonned the 6th day of March in the 2004th year of the Common Era.
The competition and festivities will be held at the Grace Church of Haddonfield, 19 Kings Highway East, Haddonfield, NJ 08033. The site opens at 10 AM; we hope to have the competition begin by 11 AM. The site closes at 9 PM; anyone remaining will be conscripted for clean-up. The site is handicapped accessable, with an elevator to the 2nd floor performance hall. There is free municipal parking behind the church, off of Tanner St., but parking is somewhat limited and we strongly encourage car-pooling where possible.
Details of local parking can be found here - http://www.gracehaddon.org/Grace_Parking.html - and the directions below are to the municipal lot.
Dona Ana Raquel de Guzman, King's Bard, has set forth the following rules for the Bardic Competition, to be held in three rounds. May the bards of the East rise to the challenge for the greater glory of our kingdom.
Round One: The first round should be either a period (pre-17th century) piece or an original piece in period style (song, story or poem), up to 5 minutes in length, upon the theme of "The Valor of the East". Documentation should be brief (time, place, source of the piece) and should fit on an index card. The words or lyrics to original (written by the contestant) poems or songs may be submitted on a separate piece of paper. After round one, Their Majesties and the judge(s) will confer and eliminate about half the contestants.
Round Two: A piece that is documented pre-17th century or in pre-17th century style, up to 10 minutes in length. The second-round entry should differ from the first (mood, format, style, instrument etc.). For example, if the first round piece was a period poem, the second round piece should be a period or period-style song. Same brief index card documentation as first round piece, same request for original words or lyrics by the performer. After round two, half the remaining contestants will be eliminated.
Round Three: After the finalists have been announced, Their Majesties will propose a topic or topics of their choice for the finalists to perform. Competitors will be given 15 minutes to prepare. There is no documentation requirement or time limit for this round. After the final round, Their Majesties will select their Champions.
There will be heraldic consulting during the day by Lord Eldrich Gaiman, Cattail Pursuivant, who will also be accepting submissions. We also hope to offer a track of scribal classes on behalf of the Tyger Clerk of the Signet, taught by Lady Alayne Alexandra Nyvern Nightwatcher. There will also be an art auction, overseen by Lady Shannon Gallowglass, to benefit the Pikestaff. There are no activities scheduled for children at this event, and all children must be under adult supervision at all times.
The dayboard and a sumptuous feast will be prepared by Lord Christopher Calchoune and the Iron Bog Cooks' Guild. In keeping with the bardic nature of the event, there will not be distinct courses of dishes. Instead, there will be a steady flow of late-period English tavern dishes sent from the kitchens.
The event will be held at Grace Church of Haddonfield, 19 Kings Highway East, Haddonfield, NJ 08033.
The site opens at 10 AM and closes at 9 PM. The off-board price is $10 for adult members, the on-board price is $18. The $3 non-member surcharge is in effect. The off-board price for youth 12-17 is $9, on-board is $17. The price for children age 4-12 is $5 off-board and $9 on-board. Babes age 3 years and under are free. Unfortunately, there will not be additional seating available in the hall during dinner. Reservations are to be sent to the Clerk, Lady Magdalena Winter. Any further questions or concerns may be directed to the Event Steward, Lord Rowen Cloteworthy. At the time of this writing (25 Dec.), there is a complication regarding merchanting at this event. We hope to have this problem cleared up very shortly. In the meanwhile, please contact the Event Steward if you are interested in merchanting.

A Harvest Feast
November 11th, 2006

Stewards: Lady Siobhan inghean ui Dhonnabhain, Lord Christopher Calchoune
Cook: ?
Dayboard: ?
Site: St. Joseph's Church, Swedesboro, NJ

The smells and noises of the harvest are in the air.  Baking bread, roasting meats, laughter in the
kitchen as all is made ready for feasting!  The Barony of Iron Bog would like to invite you to our
harvest celebrations as we offer you our best at this time of bounty.

We will throw our doors open at 10 of the clock in the morning.  There will be both fighting and fencing tourneys; most notably our own Nigel of Castle West will be hosting our Baronial Fencing Championship to  decide his successor.   Don Nigel will be holding a Slippery Slope tourney.  Come and vie to hold the Cattail buckler and sword!

For the heavy fighters, Lord Tyrum will be running either a double elimination or a round robin tourney, depending on the number of fighters attending.

There will be prizes given out for both tourneys.

Merchants are welcome to offer their wares; there are tables available for your use but we must restrict each  merchant to one owing to the size of the space.  Please contact the autocrats for more information.

The site is unfortunately not handicapped accessible.  There are stairs to get to both hall doors.

Classes will be offered on heraldry, dance, and cooking.

1:00 to 2:00 PM Cooking:  Medieval Pottages by Lord Christopher Calhoune
3:00 to 4:30 PM Dance:  Lord Wilhelm of Frosted Hills
      All day Heraldry:  Heraldic Consulting

Iron Bog is well known for its feasts, and the Cooks are preparing to fill you with tasty sundries.  It is a feast  for 64 gentles.  Onboard preregistrations may be sent to our Tollner Lady Molly O'Reilly.

The site is DRY.  Candles are allowed on the tables.

We are pleased to offer the first Iron Bog Baronial A&S Competition at this event.  Signup and documentation  paperwork will be available at Troll.  No documentation maximums are set, although we do require at least a 3x5 card with basic information about your entry.  A panel of very knowledgeable judges will be available to admire your work and find our Champion.

Baronial Court will be held before the Feast.  Show your best black and white and don't forget your stick weasels!
